Crochet

So a great chick that I work with had some twins. Girls!. She requested me to make some ruffle diaper soakers for her. And I did. They turned out so cute. I got the pattern from coats and clark it is title baby girl soakers. I did actually add an extra ruffle row because I kinda messed up and instead of fixing just continued. No worries, I just made sure the other one had the extra row too.

And the back…

I have been a bit busy this week it seems.  I completed 3 different things, now please note that none of these projects took that long.

1st I made some super simple birthday cards for my cousin and a friend. I got the idea from something I saw on pinterest- I really do spend too much time on that site. Here are the cards- just a simple happy birthday with some washi tape candles. DSCF0774

I love sending a handmade card. I really think that can just make someone’s birthday.

Next I finally completed the edging to the embroider pillow that me and goose made. I really like it, but the edging seems to turn. No worries- it is just for the goose.

Super Cute I think! It was a total me design from the embroidery to the edging. I just drew out the skull and goose’s name and then I made up the rest of the embroidery. as I went For the edging, I blanket stitched around the edge of the pillow and then made 1 layer of SC then a layer of dc and then a picot around. I have always liked the beauty and simplicity of the picot edge. It is really by default one.

Next I completed the first thing for my friend upcoming birthday. Headband number 1. I like how it turned out, but I may sew up the end the complete it. Right now it is buttoned, but I don’t think that works too well. It doesn’t seem to lay right. I found the pattern on ravelry, but the link is here. It was super easy if you know how to do cables. If not you may want to practice first. now I am not the best knitter and I did have to take out a few rows and this finished one was my second attempt, but I am very please. Also I made it this AM, it only took about 2 hours start to finish. Yes I was up at 730 this AM and will probably want a nap this afternoon.

Now can my productiveness continue into next week? We shall see.

This week has been busy and productive. I actually looked at some homes in Edgewood (a neighborhood of Atlanta) and found one I might like, it is just small and on the wrong side of Moreland. But I think that is what I can afford, so It may be it.

I am going to look at the West End this week with the girls from work. We are going to drive there and eat lunch. I like the homes I see online and I think it might be close enough for me and a little more affordable, but we shall see.

I have officially became the assistant den leader to my son’s cub scout pack. And I did my first meeting last Thursday. I really think it went well, I think the boys had a lot of fun and I totally forgot to take pictures- I was too busy making sure everyone was okay and having fun.

So I talked about the gnome catapult game last week, well this is my version of it…

My version...

My version…

The gnome catapult game 2

I kind of like the game, but I think it was hard to get the gnomes in the egg crate, but the boys didn’t seem to care it was just fun catapulting things around.

This week we have the pinewood derby. I cut out Goose’s car today- he need to paint and prep it for the race this week.

I have begun some mittens this week. I have one done and am working on the next one. You can see the info on them on my ravelry page {here}. I am making the men’s size and they fit me pretty good. I have such honking hands- thanks to my dad.

Mitten number 1

I also purchased a pair of khaki men’s pants at the thrift store yesterday. I altered them today to make some boyfriend type pants. They turned out really good and I think I like them. I was at Lane Bryant yesterday and tried on a pair and loved them, but they were $65 and that is just too damn much for a pair of weekend pants. I got mine for $5 and 30 minutes of my time. And I think I like them better. I am now on the look out for some blue jeans to do this too.

How did I alter them? Well the a bit big in the waist, but I left that alone, because it makes them more comfortable, I will just wear a belt. I trimmed about 1 inch of the sides and the in seam and the crotch. They are still a bit bagging in my hips, but that is kind of the look I am going for. Also they were pleated in the front so they poof. I didn’t fix that because I really don’t care and I think it goes with the look I am going for.

I think I am going to have to learn how to alter more clothes. It is much cheaper. And pretty damn awesome.

A new multi media project.

A few months ago, e.g. probably last summer, I began a really cool embroidery project of this old school tattoo like thing that says CRAFTY. See..

DSC_0999

Well over this Christmas, I finally finished it. Really I finished it because I wanted the basket it was sitting in and had now where else to put it. it is strange the things that motive one to complete projects.

Originally I was going to frame it and hang it up in the craft room, but I for some odd reason decided to make it into a pillow.  I spent a week crocheting blocks for the back, but when I sewed it together the blocks were too big, so I just became a pillow with no fancy back. Well I couldn’t live with that (I wanted fancy and was a little upset that this plan I had in my head didn’t work), so I crocheted an edge on the d*mn thing.

Ta Da..

DSC_0997

For the edge, I was real simple. First, I blanket stitched around so I could add the edge. Then I did a round of just single crochet. Then I did the next round double crochet, chain one, skip one, repeat around. I was going to add more, but I was kind of tired of the whole thing. It is hard to crochet on the edge of a stuffed pillow. Any way, I think it looks good, just how it is. Here is close up of the edging…

The fabric used was just some extra scrap that I had. I seem to by fat quarters all the time- they usually end up handy.

Goose and I did some embroidery together as well and he wanted a pillow too, so I am going to do the same kind of thing to it. I will post when I am done- hopefully this week.

I am truly glad I decided to teach myself how to embroider. it is really fun and fast and the finished product looks so great.

So, I have had a couple of birthdays within the last month and the next. And as I always make all my gifts, I have made my gifts for them.

I made a couple sets of granny square slippers. The pattern is from . I truly do love that site. They are super easy. You really just make about 6 squares for each slipper.

I used so bits and bobs of leftover yarn. I do love the yarn ball collection that I have. For one set, I used I love this yarn in black tweed, red, and cream. The lovely young lady that are for loves the Atlanta Falcons and these are there colors. They turned out pretty cool.

Lovely…

So for the second pair, I choose some pretty wild colors… neon green, neon orange, and mulberry purple. They are for another lovely young lady at work. Again I used some bits and bobs of yarn and they were all i love this yarn. These are quite fantastic…

Lovely…

Now just what to do for my next project. I think that I am going to make a cowl for me and possibly a stadium blanket for the Atlanta Falcons fan. She is alway cold and I think it would be very nice. I guess I need to go get some yarn for that.

Other things… work is great. we have moved offices and are now downstairs in our own suite. It is great. We need to get a few things for the exam rooms and lab, and my office furniture is not there yet, but it is nice. I am diligently working on the craft room. The paint we had is not the color I was expecting so now the curtains I had plans and accent color will not work. I need to rethink the colors. I have about half painted the room. The goose is running a fever and not feeling well so I am sitting with him and typing while he is watching spongebob. I hope he feels better tomorrow I would like to finish the room.

I finally did it! I completed the notso baby blanket I began for my goose 2 years ago!

it is a wonderful crochet ripple blanket inspired by a couple amazing knit blankets from the purl bee found here and here. at the time I began I did not knit. I do now so maybe the next big project will be a knitted blanket.

okay the yarn: I love this yarn from hobby lobby in orange, burnt orange, yellow, cream, grey beard, limelight, and forest green. I worked up to the forest green then back to the orange. the pattern was just a stitch from my stitch encyclopedia a basic ripple stitch.

and finally … tada….

what to do now….

I know I haven’t been here in a while. It seems life has just gotten away from me…

I began my new job back in April. I love it. I am going to be running the place before long. My boss wants to prompt me to senior crc but since I have only been there a short while I have to wait. No problem since that is what I want and I can wait for it. She does want me to be manager like. What does that mean? I do not know.

Over the last few weeks our doctor has been absolutely crazy… And by that I mean WTF CRAZY! hopefully he calms down soon, I really can’t take much more of the second guessing and overall bad attitude.

Work is extremely busy as well. There is alway something to do always. And it not hard, just flat out busy.

I also have been trying to clean more at home. Which I think I gave up on about 2 weeks ago. That has really affected my crocheting and crafting activities.

I have complete the birthday presents for my best friends. It totally sucks that their birthdays are like a week apart. And it doesn’t help that I always forget until the last minute. They turned out really cute. I crocheted to bags, one for each of them. MMM says I should really sale my creations, but I still hate etsy, so what to do….

I have worked on the notso baby blanket a bit and only have 3 more colors to do. It just takes so long to do a row. I don’t like big projects, but I think I am tired out of the little ones so big projects it must be from now on.

I have been knitting a scarf, yea I said knitting. It has pockets and looks like a sock monkey. When I am done I am going to knit a sweater. I guess it is about time I become a knitter as well.

Life has been good.

My car is a piece. It keeps breaking and within 1 week I spent about $1000 to get it fixed. At least I have AC. It seems to be okay now I think I have about 6 months before something else goes wrong. I should really write GM a letter. I love the car so much… It just hates me.

20120629-175519.jpg

Nana needs to retire. I think her work is literally killing her. It breaks my heart. I want her around forever, but her health is not that great right now. Her muscles have been hurting. She has been on statins forever and I think they may have caused some issue. Her doctor sucks. She went one day because of the muscle pain and they didn’t ever check CPK levels or any blood work. Really something could be really wrong. She stopped the meds, but really hasn’t been the same since.

My goose turn 5 at the beginning of the summer. And at the age of five he decided he wants to be a super hero all the time. He only has a batman costume so that is what he wears. I have bought some fabric to make him a spiderman costume and a super Moussa costume. He is just too much!

20120629-180034.jpg

My goose also decided that he wants to move to NYC. And since that is a dream of mine, I think we will. Now I just need to find a job. I would like to be there next summer. I think OHM is going to move back, so we need to be by dad.

OHM went to court finally and the deportation status has been lifted. He can apply for work papers and in 2 years citizenship. It is really good for the goose.

We had a summer of traveling. I need to get the pics off my camera and up. Maybe tonight I’ll work on that.

And that has been life lately…
